Can you introduce yourself?

Sure! My name’s Bob. My wife Sharon and I live in Waxahachie, Texas; in a neighborhood called Buffalo Ridge. We’re originally from the UK, but we moved to the U.S. back in 2001. Since then, we’ve bounced around a bit: New England, Utah… and now Texas. This is it for us. This is our final home, and we love it here.

What’s life like in your home?

It’s a good life. I work remotely as a tech sales director, and Sharon runs a home-based crafting business. She makes everything by hand. We both work from home, so keeping things running here is absolutely essential.

We’re very settled now. Waxahachie suits us. We’re right at the end of a quiet street, where everyone waves at you. There’s no crime, people are polite...it’s just a very different way of life. And after all our moves, I wouldn’t change a thing.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing outside of work?

Oh, I’ve got a few passions. I love anything with an engine. I’ve got a full racing simulator set up in one of the bedrooms...steering wheel, pedals, the whole thing. I also ride motorcycles, and in general, I just enjoy tinkering with machines.

What led you to Base Power?

Well, when we moved here, one of the first things I wanted to do was get solar panels on the roof. That was the first home upgrade. But here’s the problem: if the grid goes down and you don’t have a battery, solar alone doesn’t help you. It’s not a closed-loop system. So, even with solar, we were still completely without power during outages.

We had a cold snap our first January here. Power was out from six in the morning to six in the evening. It just kept flicking on and off, and I started to worry. You’re thinking about your pipes, dripping faucets, cabinet doors open. All the Texas stuff that’s new to a Brit, so I knew I needed a proper backup solution.

Were you considering other options before Base?

Oh yeah. I was about to go out and buy a generator and fall in line with the rest of the neighborhood — a big, loud, gas-guzzling monster. But then I saw an ad for Base Power, and I thought, “Hmm, this looks interesting.” So I did what I always do and dug into it, read the fine print, checked the specs. And pretty quickly, I realized it was a no-brainer.

I mean, people get scared off by battery costs. But Base has structured it in a way that’s affordable and straightforward. I don’t even own the batteries—they handle all of that. Maintenance, support, replacement; it’s all on them.

How was the install process?

Seamless. Kyle and the team had everything pre-handled.

I sent in some photos, they’d already planned where it was going. Installers came out, and it was up and running in about four hours. It’s neat and tidy. sits out back near the meter and honestly, it’s no more intrusive than an AC condenser.

What was your first outage experience like after Base was installed?

Night and day. Power goes out for the rest of the street—you hear a small click—and then everything in our house just stays on. No fuss. I even checked the Base app, and it told me I had 20 hours of backup remaining. That kind of reassurance was refreshing.

Everyone else was rushing around in the rain, firing up generators. I was just standing there watching them, thinking… “Yeah, that’s not me.”

What’s it like living with Base Power now?

Peace of mind. That’s the phrase I keep coming back to. I don’t worry about outages anymore. I don’t even think about it. I sleep fine, even if it’s storming outside.

The app is slick. It shows me how much power I have, how much my solar is producing, how long I’ve got left...it’s all right there. And if something ever does go wrong? You text Base and they’re on it. I’ve seen that firsthand. They’re responsive, they’re professional, and they back up what they say.

Any advice for someone thinking about Base?

If you’ve got solar, it’s an absolute no-brainer. But even if you don’t, the value is still there. Why would you go out and spend a fortune on a generator that needs fuel, makes noise, and requires constant upkeep, when you can have something like [Base]?

It’s affordable, it’s quiet, it’s automatic. No fumes. No fuss. It just works. And honestly? I’ve got nothing bad to say about the experience. None at all.
