Can you introduce yourself?‍
My name is Maria. I’m a mom of three girls, and our family of five lives in Cypress, Texas. We moved here because of the trees. Cypress is full of big, mature shade that makes the parks feel calm, and the girls love being outside. I care a lot about making our home feel like a place where they can see themselves growing up. That sense of rootedness matters to me.
You were in your home during the 2022 freeze. What was that like?
‍It was harder than I expected. We lost power for several days. The pipes froze. We were all camped out in the living room in front of the fireplace because it was the only source of warmth we had. I dragged a mattress in there, bundled the girls under layers of winter blankets, and tried to frame it like a camping adventure. In reality we were just trying to stay warm and keep them calm without power or water.
I did not realize until then how scary a long outage can be when you have small children. That experience pushed us to look for something that would make us feel safer the next time a storm hit.
How did Base come into the picture?‍
We got a flyer in the mail. I called, expecting a sales pitch, but the team walked me through everything clearly. They were honest about what the battery could and could not do, which made a big difference.
What surprised me most was the cost. It almost felt like we were getting a deal. We weren't paying anymore than we were before, and in return we also got a whole-home backup battery. Installation was simple. Base handled everything.
Do you remember the first time the battery kicked in?‍
A few weeks back the lights dimmed and flickered for a moment, then everything steadied. I did not think much of it until I checked the app and saw that the house had already switched to battery power. I was back online and working without interruption.
Before Base, even a two- or three-hour outage would throw off my entire day. I work from home, so losing power meant falling behind on work and trying to keep the girls comfortable at the same time. Now the transition is so smooth that half the time we do not even notice it.
How has Base changed things for your family?‍
We feel safer. Storms roll through all the time, especially during hurricane season. The girls even talk about it now when the sky gets dark. They’ll say, “It’s okay, we have the battery.” That peace of mind is huge.
We are no longer bracing for every storm or worrying about whether the house will stay warm or whether I can keep working. If the power goes out, we know we’ll be okay. That’s what matters most to us.
