Built for the long outages Texans actually face.

Introducing the Base Generator Recharge Port—a new beta product that lets you plug a standard 240V portable generator into your Base battery to extend backup from a couple of days to a week or more.
Get started

Unlimited backup, made simple.

Base’s Generator Recharge Port connects your portable generator directly to your Base battery—letting your system recharge and power your home automatically during an outage.

No switches, no downtime, no $20K standby needed.

Whole-home backup for 90% more affordable than a standby.

Keep your entire home running without the cost or upkeep of a permanent generator. Just connect your existing portable generator and let Base handle the rest.

Power that lasts as long as your fuel supply.

Your Base battery covers day-long outages automatically. For longer ones, you can now plug in a generator and extend your backup for days—no interruptions, no manual transfer.

Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Unlike interlocks or DIY setups, Base manages the transition between battery and generator seamlessly through its inverter, keeping voltage stable and your electronics safe.

How it works

During an outage, your Base battery powers the home automatically. Plug in a generator and it recharges while keeping power steady—no switches, no flicker.

1. Pull the generator out

Grab your portable generator when the power looks like it’ll be out for a while. Base is built to work with most 240V, 4kW+ generators, so the one in your garage is likely ready to go.

2. Plug it in

Connect the NEMA L14-30 cable from your generator to Base. No complex switches. No breaker juggling.

3. That’s it.

Your home stays on automatically. The generator adds up to 3kW; when your home uses less, the battery charges. When it uses more, the battery handles the rest. Check the Base app and keep usage under 3kW when you can for longer runtime. With fuel and smart use, you can stay powered for days.

Compatible generators

The Generator Recharge Port works with most 240-volt portable generators Texans already own. To confirm yours is compatible, check three key specs:
Get started
01
Output voltage: 240V

240V is what allows full-home backup. If your generator has a 240V outlet (often labeled “L14-30”), you’re good to go.

01
Receptacle type: NEMA L14-30R

Look for a four-prong, twist-lock outlet labeled “L14-30R.” That’s the connection the port uses.

01
Running wattage:
4kW(4000 W) or higher

Your generator needs at least 4 kW of running power. Anything smaller won’t work. Base draws up to 3 kW during recharge.

Don’t own a generator yet? Here’s what we recommend.

WEN DF680iX Quiet Portable Generator

WEN DF680iX: A dual-fuel 240V/120V generator rated ~5kW running power (≈4.5kW on LPG) — under ~$1,000 and available on Amazon or Home Depot.

01
Champion Tri-Fuel Generator

Champion 9000 W Tri‑Fuel: A tri-fuel generator (gasoline/propane/natural gas) with ~5.8kW running power on gasoline and 240V output — under ~$1,500 and available at Home Depot.

We're happy to answer all your questions

What is Base? How does it work?

Base is your energy provider and backup power provider in one.

We install a large battery (from 25 kWh to 50 kWh) at your home for a low upfront cost. You get power from us at competitive rates because our batteries help balance the grid—charging when demand is low discharging when the grid needs support. When the power goes out, your battery automatically kicks in to keep your home running. Our current system protects against 97% of outages.

How much does Base cost? How much will I pay for energy?

To get with Base, you pay a $50 refundable deposit upfront. This deposit applies toward your one-time installation cost once your battery is installed.

Installation Costs

  • Installation fee: $695 or $995 (varies by zip code and plan)
  • Your $50 deposit will be credited toward this fee

Ongoing Costs

Membership Fee

  • $19/mo or $29/mo, depending on your plan

Monthly Energy Bills

  • Energy rate: 8.5¢/kWh plus your utility’s transmission and delivery fees
  • If you have solar panels, Base buys back any excess energy you produce at:
    • 3¢/kWh plus a real-time wholesale rate bonus

Why is Base significantly less expensive than alternatives?

Base offers a significantly less expensive backup battery solution compared to alternatives due to the unique shared business model: Base earns income from the power grid instead of homeowners.

This business model allows you to get energy backup without paying tens of thousands of dollars for a traditional generator. An expensive solar system and solar battery also requires a massive upfront investment which often can take longer than the lifespan of the system to pay back. With Base, you pay just a one-time installation cost that pays the team of electricians to install the battery on your home.

Base offers fair, fixed rates and reliable backup power. Since revenue comes from the grid, not customers, Base avoids hidden fees and surprise rate hikes. Your agreement also legally guarantees your rates stay below the market average.

‍

Will I need HOA approval? Does Base have information I can share with my HOA?

Your rights in a Texas HOA

You don't need HOA approval. The State of Texas passed Property Code §202.010 allowing for those in HOAs to install “Solar Energy Devices” (as defined in Tax Code §171.107), which include batteries like Base. As such, you are entitled to the right to have the Base system installed.

Permits & location

Base manages all permitting creation, submission, and inspection with local cities and utilities. Hardware is installed near the electric meter along an exterior wall. No changes are made to the roof or front face of the home. You can read more about our electrical and spacing requirements that determine battery location here.

Permit submission documentation is available on request, and a sample is here.

Specs

The specs for Base batteries can be found here:

Safety & certification

  • Hardware is certified to UL standards: the ‘gold standard’ of electrical system safety. This means it has gone through a rigorous set of safety tests prior to being built, plus each individual system is tested prior to installation.
  • Our electricians are licensed, bonded, and insured. All electricians work under a Master Electrician.
  • Our batteries use Lithium Iron Phosphate technology, which is far safer than other batteries by design, including being much safer than the batteries in most EVs, phones, and laptops.
  • Base batteries have active fire suppressants built into them. If the battery detects a fault, airbags of fire suppressant pop inside the battery, significantly reducing the likelihood of a fire spreading if one were to start.
How can I refer a friend who’s interested in Base? Do you have a referral program?

Yes! Base has a strong referral program. Base members are essential for spreading the word about Base and getting more neighborhoods involved.

‍Existing members can send friends, family, neighbors, or strangers their personal referral link, which you can access in your Base account.

‍Refer a friend and you both will receive a free month of power (up to $250) when their battery is installed. For members with solar, we swap the free month for a $150 bill credit—because lower bills shouldn’t mean a small reward.

How does Base make money?

Base operates differently from traditional power companies. Instead of profiting directly from customers, Base earns revenue by using grid-balancing software paired with outage prediction technology. This approach optimizes the Base battery for both grid stability and outage protection.

When the grid is functioning, Base uses its batteries to support grid balancing. This strengthens the grid’s resilience and generates income for Base. By leveraging its network of batteries for grid balancing, Base maintains low rates for members while remaining profitable.
