At Home with Base

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Jason, and I live in Arlington, Texas with my wife and our two daughters. We’ve been here for about six years, and it really feels like home. Around the house, I’m a big coffee guy. I probably have more coffee equipment than I should, but my wife has been kind enough to let me fill up the kitchen with it. What I value most at home is stability. With two little kids, I want our home to feel safe and dependable, where things work the way they should.

So, your family was around in 2021 for the big storm. How did that go?

That storm was one of the most difficult moments in our lives. At the time, my wife and I were going through IVF, trying to conceive our first daughter.

The day of our embryo transfer was the same day the storm hit. We woke up to find the power out and the house freezing. It had dropped to 50 degrees inside overnight.

My wife was in the middle of treatment, taking medications and injections, and suddenly we had to make a choice. Do we stay in a house that was only getting colder, or do we leave and hope we could find power somewhere else?

We decided to leave, even though we did not know if the hotel we were going to would actually have electricity. If we had stayed, we might have lost the embryo. Even another twelve hours of power at home could have made all the difference.

What happened when you looked for a solution?

After that storm, I knew we needed something better. I started looking into backup systems, but the costs were overwhelming. The cheapest options were around five thousand dollars, and most were much higher. It just was not realistic for us.

That is when I started seeing Base online. At first, I ignored it because it seemed too good to be true. But eventually I clicked and decided to learn more. I spoke with Zach at Base, asked my questions, and realized it was the right fit. The installation could not have been easier. Everything was handled for us, and my only job was opening the garage door.

Do you remember the first outage after you got Base?

Definitely. Not long after the system was installed, our neighborhood had an outage. The lights in our house flickered, but they never went out. I checked the Base app and saw that we had already switched to battery power. Then I looked outside and realized the entire street was dark. Every house and every streetlight was out except ours. That was the moment I knew this was exactly why we signed up.

How has Base changed things for you and your family?

It has given us peace of mind. Before Base, I was always worried about losing power, especially during the extreme heat of summer and the cold snaps in winter. Now, I do not even think about it. The lights stay on, and we can go about our lives. Our bills have also been steady and predictable, which is something I really value. We used to switch providers often, chasing better prices, but I do not plan on going anywhere else now.

What would you tell someone who is unsure?

I understand being skeptical. I was too. But I would tell them not to overthink it. Base really does work the way they say it does. For us, it has made all the difference, and I have not looked back.
