3 reasons Base Power batteries beat generators

3 reasons Base Power batteries beat generators
When the lights go out in a cold Texas storm, the last thing you want is a project in the rain. But that's exactly what most generators ask of you.
So why is it still the default backup solution?
Base Power is an energy company on a mission to improve the US power grid and pass savings directly to our members. We’ve provided reliable backup through our Base battery for a fraction of the cost. Here’s how it holds up compared to a generator.
1. The initial setup
Generators:
- Pick the right generator from a confusing list of brands, fuel types and sizes.
- Standby generator installs require a third-party electrician and a licensed gas plumber.
- Portable generators need manual setup in every outage - often during a storm.
Base battery:
- One battery and energy plan.
- Our in-house electricians handle installation for you.
- Our battery takes over in a fraction of a second - we often have to tell our members there’s an outage before they notice.
2. Once the power’s out
Generators:
- Runs on fuel you have to buy, store, and refill.
- Loud and noisy with engine fumes from fuel combustion.
- If something breaks, you will need to find a third-party contractor and pay their rate.
Base battery:
- Charges from the grid automatically. No fuel to manage.
- Moderate hum. No fumes.
- We cover maintenance, and our in-house team handles repairs.
3. Let’s talk about costs
Most generators fall in the 15-20kWh range, need fuel that may cost more per kWh than electricity, and can range from $700-1500.
Base Power’s batteries are 25kWh each and can pair with a low-cost energy plan. It's $695 for one battery. $995 for two - which gives you 50kWh (more than double a typical generator's capacity). Then $19/month.
Need even more runtime? A Base battery can interconnect with a portable generator - though most members won’t need one.
