I recommend switching to Base power. It is better and more cost effective than a standby generator. This cost is the same or lower than most providers, and you get eight to twenty hours of standby power, plus the option to add a generator port to charge the battery and extend the time (which I did), so you get the best of both worlds. The installation was awesome, the their techs know the NEC and know what they are doing. They handle your HOA and everything. Glad I made the switch.

The Base electricity backup system is much better than generators. It's more economical, quieter, and requires much less maintenance. In Texas we have a third world country electric grid due to poor state government. Homes need backup electricity from winter and summer storms.

Great company to work with so far. Smooth process, communicating was clear, and honest. Our system was installed yesterday, apparently there was a power outage today in the neighborhood and we really didn't even notice.

We're happy to answer all your questions

Who is my energy provider?

If you currently receive electric service from El Paso Electric, this will not change when you enroll in this program.

Does my energy provider change when I get a Base battery?

No. El Paso Electric will remain your electricity provider. Some language on Base’s main website refers to customers in deregulated areas of Texas, but it does not apply to El Paso Electric customers.

What happens during a power outage?

Your batteries will automatically detect a grid outage and immediately disconnect your home from the grid.  During the outage, the battery powers your home and will not be discharged to the grid. When grid power is restored, your home automatically reconnects to the grid, and the battery resumes normal operation.

How does the battery interact with the solar panels on my roof?

If you have solar, you will continue to be on net metering and receive credits from El Paso Electric for generation in excess of your monthly consumption. During an outage, your solar panels can continue operating and can charge the battery, helping extend the duration of backup power.

Do I need solar to enroll in this battery program?

No. Solar is not required to enroll in our program. The battery can charge from the grid, and you can choose to add solar in the future if you’d like.

Why does Base collect my payment information if there are no recurring payments to Base?

Base collects payment information only in case you choose to terminate the battery agreement early. If you request removal of the battery before your 10-year agreement term ends, an early termination charge of $250 per battery (equivalent to the upfront incentive you receive) may apply based on program rules.

Will I see an impact on my monthly energy bill from El Paso Electric?

No. Your bill will continue to reflect only the energy your home uses through your existing utility meter. The battery is installed on a separate meter for program use and does not affect your utility bill. For billing related questions, Base recommends contacting El Paso Electric directly.

Are the home batteries used in this program safe?

Yes. The residential batteries eligible for our program are utility grade energy storage systems that meet rigorous national safety standards, including UL 9540 and UL 9540A thermal safety testing. These systems are engineered to operate safely in homes and are used widely across Texas and the U.S. in utility managed programs like ours.

How do referrals work?

When a friend or neighbor uses your referral link, you'll both receive $250
once their battery system is installed.

What happens if I sell my home?

The agreement can be transferred to the new owner. Most home buyers see whole-home backup as a value add in the home buying process.

If the system must be removed, the cancellation fee still applies.
