Base has built a native SCADA solution to group batteries into flexible aggregations and dispatch them through triple-redundant fiber, customer wifi, and 4G cellular connectivity.Utilities can control these aggregations through a web-based dashboard or an API. If desired, Base can help integrate directly into the utility’s energy management system.
Customers receive extremely affordable backup - paying $695 for installation and $19 per month compared to $15,000+ upfront for similar battery or generator options. When the grid is up, 80% of the energy is available for the utility to control and 20% is reserved for customers. When the grid is down, customers get all the energy in the batteries, which is around 80% full on average based on Base’s experience. Because Base deploys big battery systems - 40 kWh on average - even the minimum 20% can get homeowners ~3 hours of backup, long enough to endure 97% of grid disruptions. Customers can monitor the batteries’ state of charge and receive notifications of outages, including how much backup duration they have through Base’s applications. Customers cannot control the batteries.
Base’s “Gen 1” product is an 11.4 kW / 25 kWh battery. Customers can get two batteries in parallel for a total of 22.8 kW / 50 kWh. Current battery specs are linked here.
