We started Base because we thought there was a better way to do home backup. We install a battery at your home that gives you up to 36 hours of backup with reduced energy use. When the grid is up, Farmers can use the battery to help meet demand. That's what makes backup this affordable.
As a Farmers member, you can get Base Core installed for — with no monthly membership fee. You keep your existing energy service and bill, while Base gives your home whole-home backup when the grid goes down.
We know Base works a little differently, so we put together everything you need to know below.

The — install is the Farmers member price, and the monthly membership fee is waived. Farmers can draw on the battery to add capacity during high demand hours, which helps reduce outage risk.
For the 15 or so days out of the year you might need backup power, the battery is there to support you.
When we perform the grid balancing operations, they are typically only over the course of an hour, so we might take the battery down to 50% and it only takes an hour to recharge the battery. We recognize that weather events are most likely to knock out the grid for extended periods of time and we prioritize having the battery at a high state of charge whenever we see weather events inbound. So for the majority of the time, that battery is charged up and in standby mode for you.
Historically, anytime the grid has gone out, our batteries have been at an average 90% state of charge, which is what we base our outage protection estimates on.

Our team would love to talk to you about how Base Power can help protect your home.
